Do you know that you can find the IP Address of your Windows PC or Macbook very easily without using any third-party tool? Well, in this article we will explain what is an IP Address followed by different ways to check IP Address of your PC.
What is an IP address?
Every system is provided with the identifier that identifies the network for example when you forward a letter to send, then the computer’s identifier sends the letter to a particular computer by the network. Many of the networks today use TCP/IP protocol to connect with the other network. The IP address is the identifier for the TCP/IP protocol.
Two Standards Of IP Addresses
IP version 4 and IP version 6 are two standards for the protocol. All the systems have version 4 of IP address and the latest models are coming with the IP version 6 address system too. The two versions differ as :
IP address version 4 requires 32 binary bits for a single address on the network. It is represented by 4 numbers separated by dots. The number has a decimal base and for indicating the eight-digit number, called an octet like 22.214.171.124
IP version 6 requires 128 binary bits for a single address on the network and the IP address version 6 is indicated by eight groups of hexadecimal numbers separated by colons, for example, 2001:cdba:0000:0000:3257:9652. Every pair that has zero generally saves space as the colon indicates the gap. In the session of IP version 4, the internet was not so expanded as it has arisen after the dawn of the IP version 6. In the recent past, most of the networks were private and disabled from other networks when the internet had 32 bits to identify the IP address. In IP version 4 there were only 232 combinations, which just provides 4.3 billion addresses. IP address version 6 provides vast 2128 possible addresses. The IP address can be of two types static or dynamic, the static address is one which you can set by editing your settings, this type of setting is rare and can cause a problem if one changes it without having good information about TCP/IP. Dynamic is the most common one, they are provided by DHCP a network provider.
